Landon Ka lauʻae naʻi i nā lā ino Opunui, ND
I was blessed with the opportunity to grow up in Hawaii as a young Hawaiian and active ocean enthusiast. Growing up I had also learned about the premature passing of my Hawaiian grandmother at the age of 50 due diet and lifestyle related chronic disease; an unfortunate trend that was and is still not uncommon. This impassioned me to play a more proactive role in my personal health empowerment which allowed me to be a positive role model for my family and community that surrounded me. I used this experience to discover the impacts of mind, body and spirit on preventing disease and optimizing health. Gravitating towards a self-empowered natural form of health and healing, I chose to pursue a career in medicine to broaden my ability to support the health needs of my community. Walking in the footsteps of my ancestors, I have been given the responsibility and privilege to support others along their own unique healing journeys to find peace and balance in their lives.
After completing my Bachelor of Science degree at Loyola Marymount University in Natural Science as a 4 year NCAA Division I athlete in the sport of rowing, I went on to pursue my Naturopathic Doctorate at Bastyr University, one of the most world renowned science-based institutions of natural health. Bastyr’s rigorous medical program provided me with deep medical knowledge, an awareness of the most innovative developments in medicine, and the creativity to formulate individualized and effective intervention strategies to manage, cure and prevent disease.
I am a firm believer in the naturopathic principle of Docere (Doctor as Teacher) and agree whole-heartedly that in order to effectively teach, one must practice what they preach. I strive to exemplify health promoting behavior and balance as a competitive endurance athlete having finished 5 Ironman triathlons. Health promotion counseling is at the forefront of successful naturopathic healing which consists of educating patients on how various determinants of health such as genetics, diet, lifestyle, environment, mental and emotional well-being, and ones sense of purpose in life creates the framework for health and one's capacity to live and be well.
With an interest in chronic disease, stress management, sports medicine, oncology and Native Hawaiian health, I am honored to return to the place I call home with the duty of serving your health needs as a naturopathic physician. I believe that everyone deserves a safe place to heal and be heard. In private practice my passion lies in developing relationships with my patients and their health through comprehensive integrative natural medical care and individualized support. I look forward to the opportunity of providing you with the most innovative natural approaches to optimize health.
